house keepers

May 29, 2006

Before you think I’m too much of a bastard, I used to be a house keeper, so I can complain with impunity. We lost our housekeeping manager for discretionary purposes a while ago leaving us with a new person: *****. Well! ***** here does not meet the standards for a good manager.

*Standards*
1. Makes sure everyone does their job
2. Ensures there’s enough towels for Armageddon.
3. 1 & 2

So far, this manager does neither.
My aggression and anger is not towards housekeepers, even though they’re refusing to do their job properly – cleaning each room and giving towels for each. I get to be stressed tonight by this war of intelligence, and lament when it loses to mediocrity.

Who I am

May 28, 2006

I haven’t spoken in a long while about my namesake, my work at this hotel which shall remain nameless. I’d like to keep my job awhile longer. Summer has begun which finally forces me to become introspective in my duties and how I suffer under fire.
Friday was the beginning! no more lounging around enjoying hours upon hours laid back with an ice cream float or Dr Pepper in hand.

I was going to say something important, but I’ll do that later.
Let’s just say… Kansas needs more interstate highways.

Physicists & philosophy

May 22, 2006

Deciding to take upon myself to enjoy this summer I’ve tried to re-read Stephen Hawking’s book A brief history of time and yet i’m not even on the 13th page and I feel a strange contempt for his philosophical comments. A surprise to some that a physicist should even be considering these realms. But I believe their jobs interact once in awhile, their fitness as either is in their ability to appreciate the delicacies of the other side.
Take page 13 from Dr. Hawking’s book; he describes in a rushed detail an application of Darwin’s theories concerning human reasoning. It’s a recent enough book, not even 20 years old and yet he fails to recognize the critical comments about it – whether or not human reasoning would “evolve.” A point I haven’t ever been able to fully argue or decide upon myself, one would think an esteemed Professor would recognize the importance of acknowledging the development of that and other arguments.

Your moral for the day: be mindful of the experts, they might be talking out of their arse.

Alice Coopers Late night show

May 15, 2006

To preface my latest (and late) post: apparently in the new smash brothers on the Wii (beep!) the Solid Snake character will refuse to fight the Mario character. That is both honourable and hi-larious.

But schools out for summer, which gives me a few things to do, beat a couple of games (for the love of god man, beat a f#@king game!). Read a couple of books and become relaxed & groovy. I think there is a certain irony (and please, you english majors correct me if I’m wrong) in reading some of the Chronicles of Narnia after a semester of CS Lewis’ more heavy hitting (and by no means less enjoyable) books on religion.

Tuesday is a birthday never before seen, as will my state of being, I’m sure. In the american culture being 21 means something. My life becomes forfeit, alcohol and gambling will become perfectly acceptable. Personally? I just want to play some New Super Mario Brothers on my DS and beat Mario & Luigi (red shell combos are all the rage these days) Maybe see wtf the whole drinking thing is about, but come on, why be stupid on your first day out? I’m reminded of the military bases, they get their 3 day passes for good behavior, and proceed to get smashed and arrested, I don’t get it.

Tomorrow: I won’t be going to class, that feels pretty nice.
for awhile at least.
