Oy!
After a surprisingly non-stressful weekend in Colorado Springs.
Word to the wise (that’s to say Mac users) – avoid the Clarion on west bijou, they use active-x authentication… but anyways…
I managed to get myself a lovely hat and coat and just in time. For as we left the mall, a storm that was hovering around Pikes Peak hours before descended upon us –torturing the poor teenagers who were wearing the latest fashion devoid of insulation.
Now it would be hazardous of me to assume you’ve seen a large City (that’s right kids, we’re out of the “town” dichotomy!) or their infrastructure, a fortiori Colorado Springs, so allow me to describe their features. Essentially it blows. A constant flux of cars driving along multilane highways with little regard for others gives you quite an exhilarating affect. When it wasn’t scary as hell it was really quite fun to drive in.
I suspect a certain type of person does well in a larger city such as the springs, but damn if it isn’t uncomfortable. In Hays (literal middle of no-where Kansas) the cost of living is ridiculously low. For a NICE two bedroom apartment it costs roughly 450 and bills, at minimum wage two people can afford this and bills, food and internet, and various magazines AND numerous MMORPG accounts. That’s roughly 800 a month. In Colorado Springs you’ll spend nearly that much in gas! (yes yes, that’s gratuitous use of hyperbole) As nice as the opportunities of food, culture, opportunities to pique your social nature, all of these things pale in comparison to the costs involved.
So, while I am unable to enjoy the finer things in life, I will enjoy the company of my loved ones, a kitten, and the gentle hum of a macintosh laptop*
*no it doesn’t really hum, relax!
