Bioshock
I'm writing this in spite of everyone else writing about this game, I really didn't want to be an also ran, but I enjoyed it so much I can't leave this out of my rants. While not lucky enough to live near a Target with a poor understanding of the Gregorian Calendar I did do like every other monkey and downloaded the Demo on Xbox Live to enjoy my entrance into Rapture, our political Utopia...
I'll have to write later about the political ideas & their place in Bioshock, I may even get a paper out of it for class (two birds, one really large stone) but I'm intrigued as to why Rapture as a city failed, what role Atlas has to do with the overthrow, and why Ryan is utterly convinced everyone is out to get him.
To be honest with everyone, I haven't finished Half-Life 1 or 2, much less all the expansions (nee "episodes"), yet I still found the city and story telling catchy, leading me to actually be excited about playing it. It doesn't hurt there are so many ways to fuck with people and I can tell plasmids are going to be my favorite destructive part of this game.
The demo is so short I can beat it in a matter of minutes. This isn't a problem because it does its job, make me cry in pain and anguish over the next few days. However I have school starting that Monday - translation: i'm fuuuckered academically. Maybe my Professors will understand, and more importantly my family will understand my future career as a hobo. More to come, if I ever beat it.
